Astral & Umbral

Astral & Umbral

"Order and Chaos. Light and Darkness. Neither can exist without the other."

Astral

Umbral

Overview

Astral and Umbral are the two primordial forces that shape the world of Realms of Itheria. Nearly every race, culture, and supernatural power can trace its origins to one of these cosmic energies.

Neither force is inherently good nor evil. Instead, they embody opposing philosophies that together sustain the balance of existence.

Without Astral there would be no permanence.

Without Umbral there would be no growth.

Together they create equilibrium.

Astral

Astral embodies:

  • Light
  • Order
  • Stability
  • Harmony
  • Permanence
  • Stasis
  • Preservation

Astral seeks to preserve what already exists. It favors civilization, structure, consistency, and the enduring beauty of creation.

Its followers often believe that perfection is achieved through balance, discipline, and protecting the world from unnecessary change.

Astral Races

  • Angel
  • Merfolk
  • Piscine
  • Centaur
  • Minotaur

Umbral

Umbral embodies:

  • Darkness
  • Chaos
  • Evolution
  • Transformation
  • Ambition
  • Adaptation
  • Change

Umbral rejects stagnation.

It believes strength is forged through adversity, growth requires change, and survival belongs to those willing to evolve beyond their former selves.

Where Astral seeks preservation, Umbral embraces transformation.

Umbral Races

  • Dragonkin
  • Scalekin
  • Demon
  • Devil

Neutral Races

Some peoples stand outside the eternal conflict.

These races are capable of embracing either Astral or Umbral philosophies—or rejecting both entirely.

Their destiny is determined not by birth, but by the choices they make throughout their lives.

  • Celestial Dragons
  • Human
  • Manifested Spirit
  • Fae

The Balance

Neither Astral nor Umbral can truly exist without the other.

A universe of only Astral would eventually become frozen in perfect but lifeless order.

A universe of only Umbral would collapse into endless chaos and unchecked change.

Life exists because these opposing forces continuously shape one another.

Some individuals devote themselves entirely to one force.

Others walk between them, believing true wisdom lies not in choosing one side—but in understanding both.
